Is HDR or HDRI better? ›

While regular HDR or high dynamic range is fine on its own, intelligent HDR help provide a more refined viewing experience. The newly optimized HDRi even offers additional optimization for more precise color, gamma, and saturation, resulting in superior detail levels and more consistent brightness control.

HDRI is short for High Dynamic Range Image. Digital cameras only have a limited dynamic range — that's why some areas of a photo appear darker than they do in real life.

Selecting HDRI with higher resolution will give a clearer higher quality shadows and reflections. For technical info, you won't need more than a 14k HDRI image for a 1920*1080 render shot. Yet these images consume a lot of RAM. These are 32-bit images.

Our assets are all licensed as CC0, which is effectively Public Domain even in jurisdictions that do not support the Public Domain.

The Blender HDRI Assets library is available free under a Creative Commons CC BY 4.0 license. It is provided as a . blend file compatible with Blender 3.2+. Alternatively, you can buy the library for $1 via BlenderMarket to help support HDRMAPs.

What is the app for making HDRI? ›

EXR format) HDRi of your location. HDReye is an essential app for combining 3D animation realistically with footage or capturing lightmaps of any location. What used to require an expensive 360° camera or chrome ball light probe, now can be done conveniently on your phone with HDReye.

To optimize images for HDRI export, from the Main Menu select Render > Render Settings and enable the HDRI Optimized Output check box in the FireFly settings tab. To Export an HDRI image, from the Main Menu select File > Export > Image, and choose either Radiance (. HDR) or OpenEXR (. EXR) as the image format.

Installation: Open the user preferences, in the Add-ons tab press the “Install” button, then locate the ". zip" file, then hit enter or double click. The add-on has now been installed you can find it in the “3D View” category, to enable it check the box to the left of the add-on.
