Key West Shark Fishing

Key West Shark Fishing

Lucas and Annette Howrey fished with Andrew and I again today on the Lethal Weapon. Yes, Shaun, we got another one turned! We only had two bites today, missed one and Lucas fought, caught and released a 7′ #150 Hammerhead. It was windy today so we fished in the Hawk Channel in calm waters. Lucas and Annette had a wonderful time and have already booked a December family Tortugas trip. Tight Lines and Screaming Reels, Capt Ted

Lucas and Annette Howrey, from Iowa, fished with Andrew and I today on the Lethal Weapon. We tried to go Sailfishing but the water was too green and full of seaweed so we were unable to troll. Lucas and Annette caught a couple of Barracudas and we settled down and started chumming at one of my favorite wrecks. We missed the first fish that bit, but here’s a picture of the second. It is a #400 9′ Hammerhead, tag teamed and released by Annette and Lucas. The monster fought for over an hour on #130 tackle before the Howrey’s subdued the beast. Yes, Shaun, we got him turned! Lucas also fought, caught and released a #300+ 8′ Bull Shark. Tight Lines and Screaming Reels, Capt Ted

Lucas Howrey, Brian Madsen and Shaun “got him turned” Roby from Howry Construction in Iowa fished with Andrew and I in the Dry Tortugas National Park. The fishing was phenomenal. Huge Yellowtail Snapper, Hog Snapper, Black, Red and Goliath Grouper, Kingfish, Cero Mackeral, Trigger Fish, Barracuda, Bonito, Nurse Shark, Caribbean Reef Shark, Bull Shark and Lemon Sharks were caught on the trip. The fishing in the Garden Key Anchorage was unbelievable and we were spooled countless times by giant Hammerheads. Tight Lines & Screaming Reels, Capt Ted

David and Jason Ream from West Virginia, fishing out of Sunset Key, spent this afternoon with Frank and I on the Lethal Weapon. We caught our limit of Kingfish right away and rigged one up on the Shark rod. The first wreck we tried was barren, but the second one proved to be a winner. The first Shark stole the bait. The second one hit instantly as soon as we put out a fresh Kingfish and the fight was on. The monster ripped out more than a quarter mile of line and was totally uncontrollable for nearly an hour. The great fish finally got around a deep water lobster trap and the great fish was gone. David, Jason, Frank and I were left in awe as the leviathan swam away. Frederik and Bettina Hoeller from Austria fished with Andrew and I today on the Lethal Weapon. We tried trolling the Blue-Water but nobody was home. We then dropped the anchor at the east end of the Boca Grande Bar. Frederik got things started with a six foot #125 Blacktip Shark. Bettina finished the trip off with an eight foot #350 lemon Shark! Both fish put up a hell of a fight. We came in an hour early as both anglers had all they could handle, Tight Lines & Screaming Reels, Capt Ted

Old customers Sadler, Claire and Jackson Bailey fished on the Lethal Weapon again today. We started out light tackle shark fishing where both kids caught and released a nice Sharpnose. We then ran out into the Gulf of Mexico where we trolled up some Kingfish and Spanish Mackeral for bait. Next on the agenda was one of my favorite wrecks where everyone caught and released a giant Goliath Grouper. Sadler’s was #250, Claire’s #300 and 12 year old Jackson was the champion with a #500er. A great time was had by all. Tight Lines & Screaming Reels, Capt Ted

Andrew’s mom and dad, Bill & Denise Mason, and brother Patrick, from Memphis, celebrated Bill & Denise’s 30th wedding anniversary today on the Lethal Weapon. Bill, Denise and Patrick each caught and released a 7′ 200# Caribbean Reef Shark and Andrew’s girlfriend, Leah Moeller from Key West was the hero releasing this 9′ 300# Hammerhead Shark. We also caught a dozen big Yellowtails and a Mutton Snapper. A great time was had by all. Tight Lines and Screaming Reels, Capt Ted

The Scott Dreiker family from MA fished with Andrew and I this morning on the Lethal Weapon. The Dreikers wanted action so we hit the reef hard at Eastern Dry Rocks. Everyone caught a fish and Zach was the hero with this 51″ monster. The Dreikers are having this Barracuda mounted for Zach’s wall. A great time was had by all. Andrew and I picked up Jim & Lucas Littlejohn, Ann & Eric Carr and Julie & Mark Champion this morning at Sunset Key for 6 hours of Shark fishing. We had a blast! We released 4 American Sharpnose Sharks and Lucas caught and released this 6′ Hammerhead. Julie was fighting a fifth American Sharpnose Shark when a monster Hammerhead came up out of the deep, ate the Sharpnose and the battle was on. Julie fought the monster for 30 minutes before he spit out the mangled Sharpnose Shark and swam merrily off on his way. What a trip! Tight Lines & Screaming Reels, Capt Ted
