California Dreamin'

Will Drury from California, fishing with his dad, had the trip of a lifetime today fishing with Heath and I on the Lethal Weapon. We caught 8 Bonito, 6 Dolphin and a Barracuda. Wiill also had a chance at a big Hammerhead but the great fish got under the boat and cut us off. It was a wonderful day and we all had a blast. Tight Lines & Screaming Reels, Capt Ted

David Jr, David III and Gail Kroedel, and Ashley McHugh from Pasadena, MD fished with Heath and I this morning. We started the day out with the 2 Dave’s fighting a double-header Sailfish. Both fish were fought on stand-up #20 and were photographed and released at boatside. We then grabbed a mooring at the Vandenberg wreck and proceeded to catch and release two 7′ #150 Caribbean Reef Sharks. Gail and Ashley did all the photography work. Monster Hammerhead

Monster Hammerhead

Repeat customer, Davey Crockett, Danette Musselman, Allen and Janine Goldie from Kentucky fished with Heath and I today on the Lethal Weapon. We trolled down to the West catching numerous Bonito, Kingfish and Cero Mackeral. We soaked a Bonito on the Sub wreck in 240′ to no avail. We then trolled to the East catching several more Bonito. We dropped the anchor in 40′ of water inside of Sand Key and began chumming. The biggest Hammerhead of my 40 year career ate the bait and the third time he ate, we hooked him and the fight was on. Danette started in the chair and did a fine job, but soon gave way to Allen. Allen fought the fish for 2 more hours hours across a span of six miles. The great beast was finally subdued and released in 180′ of water east of the main ship channel. While we were pulling the fish up for a picture the fish shook his head one last time and broke the #280 wire leader. The fish was fifteen feet long and possibly 1000 lbs. Here’s a photo of a bunch of exhausted happy anglers. Tight Lines and Screaming Reels, Capt Ted

Repeat customer Daniel Healy, his sister Mary and Angela Bassola from Honolulu, HI fished with Tommy and I this morning on the Lethal Weapon. We fished a nearshore spot that’s a favorite of mine and had an immediate bite. The line went slack, we thought we lost the fish, but suddenly a massive Tiger Shark appeared at the transom with our bait in his mouth and the fight was on. After a one hour battle, 16 year old Daniel subdued the fish and photos were taken a boatside before the release. The fish measured 9′ and an astonishing #400. The fish will be gracing Daniel’s wall alongside his Bull Dolphin. Nurse Angela caught and released a #200 Nurse Shark – how appropriate!! Mary was the photographer. Return customers, Joe and Deana Music and Phil and Matt Spaugy from Ohio, fished with Tommy and I this morning on the Lethal Weapon. It was half day sharking at its finest. We broke off a huge Shark almost immediately and 30 minutes later the giant Tiger came back, ate the bait on #30 stand-up spin gear and the fight was on. The Shark dragged us for 2 miles while Matt was fighting the monster for an hour. After getting beautiful photos at boatside, the trophy fish was released to fight again another day. Shortly after returning to our anchor, the rod bent over again. Deana stepped up and whipped a 7′ #200 Scalloped Hammerhead Shark. Both fish were amazing light tackle releases. Matt and Deana are both having replicas made of their trophy fish. Tight Lines & Screaming Reels, Capt Ted
