Fishing Dry Tortugas National Park

Fishing Dry Tortugas National Park

Our three favorite Austin girls, Brandi Wilson, Annah Bennie, and Elizabeth Weisman, fished with Andrew and I, again, in the Dry Tortugas. We spent the morning at the K buoy catching huge Red and Black Grouper, Yellowtail Snapper, Blue-Runner and 3 Nurse Sharks all caught on #20 test stand-up spinning gear. We then trolled to the Garden Key Anchorage catching Barracuda, Cero Mackeral and a big Mutton Snapper. The Lemon Sharks, Goliath Groupers and Tarpon were in a feeding frenzy from 2:00 in the afternoon to 11:00 at night. We trolled home today along the edge of the Continental Shelf in the blue water. It was alittle slow, but we did have a shot at a Blue Marlin, but pulled the hook. Afabulous time was had by all and we hope to see the girls again soon. Tight Lines and Screaming Reels, Capt Ted

Andrew and I had a very slow morning with a nice family from Russia, capturing only 2 Barracudas. We brought them back to the dock and crossed the harbor to Sunset Key where we picked up Scott, Kim, Jon, and Chris Thompson and Christian Kennicott and Grace Gemberling – all from North Carolina. After the slow morning in the Atlantic, we headed out to the Gulf of Mexico. We caught 5 quick Barracudas for bait and went to one of my favorite Gulf Wrecks. We only had a little time, but it was enough for Jon to hook, fight, land and release a 5′, 260# Goliath Grouper. Jon made our day!! Tight Lines and Screaming Reels. Capt Ted

Chris Iacobelli and Kirk Lewandowski can’t seem to get enough big fish action. The guys decided to do a half day Shark excursion today before leaving for home tomorrow. We loaded up with Bonito for bait and anchored at the east end of the Boca Grande Bar. Fifteen minutes later we were fighting a # 300 Lemon Shark. The fish was released unharmed. Moments later a true behemoth struck! Five hours later and with three tired guys in the cockpit we had an estimated # 600 Lemon at boatside. The fish was over twelve feet long and put a hurting on Chris, Kirk, my son, Jason and my # 80 tackle. It was one of the most epic fights I have ever been involved in.
